UC Marinas Preparing For Busy Summer

/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

Marinas across the Upper Cumberland are expecting a busier summer.

Wildwood Marina and Resort Owner John Deane said the resort’s social media interactions and preseason bookings are higher than usual. Deane said he hopes the resort is able to accommodate guests while still practicing social distancing.

“There’s a hunger for people to get out of the house and get some fresh air and get out on the water,” Deane said. “We’re expecting we are going to have fairly healthy attendance at Wildwood.”

More people means more precautions against the coronavirus. Deane said they are offering room service for overnight guests and has separated all dinner tables at least six feet apart. Deane said all employees will be wearing mask and gloves and cleaning with medical or commercial grade sanitizing agents.

Deane said preparing for this season has been unique since the resort is currently under construction. The Wildwood Marina and Resort is expected to open on June 13th.

Cookeville Boat Dock manager Christina Slemp said preparing for this season is anything, but normal.

“We are trying our best to follow CDC guidelines and enhance cleaning for all areas,” Slemp said. “I do think the lake is a great place for social distancing.”

The boat dock is using window services to refuel and cleaning rental boats between every party. They are also practicing social distancing and sanitizing all high traffic areas on their dock.

Slemp said she, too, expects this season to be busier than usual.
