Meet The Candidates: John Clough Focuses On Health

Dr. John Clough moved to Livingston in 1987 and currently practices family medicine at Priority Care Medical Clinic.

Clough is one of four candidates running for city council. Clough said he wants to grow the city of Livingston by focusing on the health of the community.

“We need to continue to have good opportunities for education for our kids, clean and safe places for the to have physical education and recreation,” Clough said. “And that goes for all ages.”

Clough said as a physician, he learned how to listen to patients and work together with others to meet expectations. He wants to use that experience to fight drug use in the Upper Cumberland, especially the misuse of legal drugs.

“As a county over the last 50 years, we have made great strides to reduce smoking and that has been successful because people from all walks of life have worked on that,” Clough said. “I think we need to apply that same community effort on the drug situation and the misuse of drugs.”

Livingston is in close proximity to Dale Hollow Lake, Center Hill Lake and Lake Cumberland. Clough said he wants to make Livingston a hub city to host the tourists who come to enjoy the nature in the area.

With hopes of growing business and tourism in Livingston, Clough said the safety of the community will help with the growth.

“I also think public safety is very important,” Clough said. “We need to have a well trained, well educated and responsible police department, fire department and our first responders as well.”

Clough said he has been self employed for over thirty years. He learned skills such as evaluating budgets, hiring and communicating with employees and planning long term goals. Clough said these skills will assist him serve as an Alderman for Livingston.
