Livingston Fireworks Will Happen At Central Park

/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

The Livingston First Baptist Church July Fourth celebration will happen at Central Park.

First Baptist Church consulted with local leaders and the Overton County Health Department to make the decision. Chairman of Recreation Ministry Greg Arnold said hosting the celebration at Central Park makes everyone safer.

“At our church, everything is wide open and people can come in from everywhere,” Arnold said. “There was no way we could monitor.”

Arnold said the church did not give up any performances or vendors to make the celebration possible. The health department will temperature check all attendees before entering inside the fence around the park. Arnold said the church is prepared for the expected large turnout.

“It is a lot of work, but it is worth it in the end,” Arnold said. “Our community needs this type of stuff. Belonging in a sense community type thing is important just in life.”

The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Country gospel group Mark209 will perform at 6:00 p.m. Fireworks will commence once night time arrives. Arnold said health care workers will create checkpoints around the fence of the park.

“We will have a team disinfecting high touched areas periodically including the playground and restroom facilities,” Arnold said. “All of this is free, and we are just going to be as safe as we could be.”

Arnold said the church will provide hot dogs and chips for all attendees. Vendor workers will wear masks and gloves when serving people. The church is asking for sick individuals to not come to the event. Any person with a temperature above 100.4 will nor be allowed inside the park. Any person refusing to take their temperature will also not be allowed inside.

“We believe freedom is an essential part of the American life,” Arnold said. “We are going to celebrate our freedom, and it is going to be fun.”
