/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

Cookeville City Council approved the appointment of Darian Coons as the new city clerk Thursday night.

Coons replaces Cathy McClain who retired at the end of June. Coons had served under McClain in the city clerk’s office.

The council also approved the ordinance allowing extensions to planning deadlines during state and federal emergencies. Developers could request a six-month extension during such emergencies from the planning department.

Council also approved on first reading a rezoning of some 4.86 acres along Highway 111 from regional commercial to single family and duplex development. Developer Jerry Gaw wants to build a development in the region near the Spring Street exit on Highway 111.

Public Works will move forward with the approval of a new bulldozer and loader as well as salt for the coming winter months. Council approved the purchase Thursday night. The council also approved the extension on leases for police motorcycles for an additional year.
