Putnam County

The district attorney has a new Cookeville office on South Walnut Avenue.

District Attorney Bryant Dunaway said the Cookeville office needed the extra space. The new location will better serve the staff as well as the community.

“The opportunity arose to have a little bit more square footage, which is really going to serve to our office function better,” Dunaway said. “The past several years I have had four offices, and I did not have a single room large enough to have a full staff meeting.”

Dunaway said the office is open now but does not expect to be fully settled until Monday. Dunaway said the lease for the 9,490 square foot office is below the market average.

“It is still well below market rate, which is one of the reasons that allowed us to accomplish the move,” Dunaway said. “It was a very small change in rental rate.”

The other three offices that serve the 13th Judicial District will remain at their current locations. Dunaway said the office started moving to the new location earlier this week.

“We are actually physically moving right now,” Dunaway said. “Monday and Tuesday of this week, we had all of our furniture, coffee makers and equipment to the new location.”

The new location is at 1289 S. Walnut Avenue beside the Tennessee Highway Patrol office. Dunaway said the landlord performed small renovations to the install more walls to create more work spaces.

The other two criminal office locations are 112 4th Street, Crossville, TN 38570 and 1920 Bradford Hicks Drive, Livingston, TN 38570. The child support division is located at 80 South Jefferson Avenue, Suite N, Cookeville, TN 38501.

The 17 attorneys in the district attorney’s office and 25 support personnel serve the counties of Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam and White. The 13th Judicial District is the largest district in the State.
