The Baxter Fire Department will apply for a grant for upgraded safety gear.

Fire Chief Matthew White said the $1,500 grant will help cover the cost of supplying their newly hired fire fighter with new gear.

“It is great help for us, because we can provide our firemen that much needed fire gear they have to wear,” White said. “And it helps offset and supplement some of the costs for the citizens, because they have to be able to provide for us.”

White said the department expects to receive the results of the application sometime in September. The application will be sent out this week.

“We have applied for it before and had pretty good success,” White said. “We hope to get it again this year. We have received it a time or two in the past.”

Public Unity Partners provides the funding for the safety grant. White said the organization has limited funds with multiple partners, but has high hopes to win the grant.
