Lee Investigation Ongoing; No Timeline

Overton County

The investigation into alleged misconduct by Livingston Academy teacher Mark Lee continues.

Overton County Director of Schools Dr. Mark Winningham said there is not a specific timeline or an end date to the School Board examination of Lee’s behavior. However, Winningham said it should conclude in the near future.

Lee has been on an indefinite suspension since allegations surfaced publicly for the first time in March. At that time, two former students approached the Overton County School Board accusing Lee of sexual harassment. In addition to the School Board launching an investigation, District Attorney Bryant Dunaway’s office began a criminal investigation. That investigation ended last month with no charges filed due to the statute of limitations expiring.

In 2017, a female student reported to school officials that Lee had made sexually inappropriate statements to her. There were no allegations of any physical contact or solicitation of sexual contact. In 2019, a second female student reported that Lee had made inappropriate sexual statements to her, looked down her shirt, touched her stomach and stared at her backside.

In Dunaway’s letter to the TBI officially ending the investigation, he said he was concerned that complaints of alleged misconduct were not formally reported to the DA’s office, a law enforcement agency or the Department of Children’s Services.
