Clay County Will Not Mandate Masks

Clay County

Clay County Mayor Dale Reagan said he will encourage residents to wear masks, but he will not mandate it.

“Well I think that we all have rights to freedom to make decisions,” Reagan said. “I feel like our citizens out there will make good decisions.”

Governor Lee’s executive order 54 gives county mayors the option to mandate masks. Reagan said with only 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Monday, he doesn’t think it should be required.

“We want to do everything that we possibly can to continue to keep that curve down,” Lee said. “But I believe in all my heart that the people recognize and knows here in the county what they need to do and what they don’t need to do.”

Reagan said his decision could change depending whether or not virus cases drastically increase.
