Four UC Counties Double Digit Unemployment

Four Upper Cumberland counties reported double-digit unemployment rates with Dekalb and Warren Counties among the highest rates statewide.

Warren County’s unemployment rate stands at 12.7 percent, down from 17 percent in May. Last June, Warren County’s unemployment rate stood at just five percent. In Dekalb County, June unemployment stood at 11.6 percent.

Jackson and Van Buren counties also reported unemployment above 10 percent.

Overton and Pickett Counties reported some of the state’s lowest unemployment rates in June, according to statistics released Thursday.

Pickett County’s 7.2 percent unemployment rate ranked third lowest in the state. That number fell 0.5 percent from May. Overton County’s unemployment rate stands at 7.4 percent down from 8.7 percent in May.

Putnam County’s rate fell to 8.5 percent in June. Cumberland County’s rate grew just under one percent to 9.4 percent.
