I-40 Accident Slows Traffic; Man Airlifted

A Pegram man airlifted to Nashville’s Skyline Medical Center Thursday afternoon afternoon after leaving Interstate 40 and striking a tree.

The accident happened just before 2pm near mile marker 274 in Putnam County. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 54-year-old Milton Sauls was travelling eastbound when his car left the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. He left the roadway, striking an earth embankment and then a tree before coming to rest in the woods.

A preliminary report from THP said charges are pending.

No word on Sauls’ condition as of Thursday afternoon.
