Overton, White & Warren Seeing COVID Increases

COVID rates have increased over the last two days in Overton, White and Warren Counties.

Overton County reported double digit positive cases Thursday for the first time since the pandemic began. That brings the active case total to 56 in Overton County. The positivity rate, considered the most accurate data point according to experts, stands at 4.5 percent.

White County reported 21 cases Wednesday and six more Thursday. The county reported two deaths Thursday. 6.2 percent of tests in White County are coming back positive. That number has increased slightly over the last week.

A total of 56 positive cases have been noted in Warren County over the last three days. The positivity rate stands at 6.4 percent in Warren County. The active case total stands at 240.

Putnam County has added 44 positive cases over the last two three days, according to data from the Tennessee Department of Health. The positivity rate remains about ten percent in the county.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said testing has decreased statewide and nationally over the past several days. Piercey said she fears people are not getting tested out of worries that the results will not come back quickly.

Piercey said lab turnaround times are beginning to decrease, as backlogs begin to clear.
