Head of Algood Liquor by the Drink Emphasizes Economics

/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

The head of the Algood Liquor by the Drink Committee said she sees economic benefits in her petition.

Algood Liquor by the Drink Head Tiffany Anton said now that liquor by the drink is on the November 3rd ballot, the groundwork starts. Anton said she hopes people see an economic driver, not morality issues.

“I’m aware of the religious aspects, that this is kind of a hot button issue but I really want to point out the economic and the growth of the city benefits and not just the alcohol benefit,” Anton said.

People spending money in Algood, instead of surrounding areas because of liquor laws, is part of the campaign Anton said. The committee’s plan is to get yard signs and mail flyers for the campaign.

“We’re not creating more drinkers by being able to serve, we’re creating an environment for more restaurants to be able to open and be thriving,” Anton said.

Ten years ago, liquor by the drink failed on the Algood ballot. The Putnam County Elections Commission verified signatures Thursday. 152 signatures were collected, only 130 were needed for a successful petition.
