Sunday Carjacking Foiled In Silver Point

A Sunday afternoon carjacking in Silver Point foiled as two Madison County, Tennessee residents taken into custody by Putnam County deputies.

20-year-old Thomas Johnson arrested at the Corner Market Shell station in Silver Point. 22-year-old Tommie Lee Smith arrested after an extensive K-9 and helicopter search. According to the Putnam County Sheriffs Department, Smith forced his way into a car. The car’s owner struggled with Smith, who attempted to hit the owner of the vehicle.

The two arrived around 11:30am Sunday. They were driving a stolen 2002 Honda Civic, stolen from Jackson, TN earlier Sunday.

Thomas Johnson charged with two counts of theft of property and has a $14,000 bond. Tommy Lee Smith was arrested for two counts of theft of property, aggravated assault, evading arrest, and shoplifting. Bond set at $31,000. Smith has an outstanding warrant for a violation in Madison County.
