Cumberland Asks For Freeze On State Testing

/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

The Cumberland County Board of Education unanimously approved requesting a freeze on state standardized testing Thursday night.

In its resolution the Cumberland County Board cited the disparities in learning and teaching methods this school year. However, if state testing does happen in Tennessee, the board asked the results be used in a different fashion. Instead of counting scores against the districts rankings and statewide scores, they ask it be used as a metric of student progress.

The Board wrote that testing should focus on building back up students academic, social and emotional skills.
