UC Regional Airport Hangar Dedication

/ The Upper Cumberland's News Leader

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport has expanded their operations with a new hangar.

A dedication ceremony was held Saturday to celebrate the project’s completion. CEO Aaron Tippin said the hangar is dedicated to his uncle and father who were the pioneer pilots of the family.

“It hasn’t gone to waste, all they did to teach people to love aviation,” Tippin said. “And so today we dedicated that and had the opportunity while Uncle Billy is still with us to honor him and remember my dad.”

Tippin said the new hangar will be used for an antique war bird ride service. He said the airport has several airplanes dating back to early World War II.

A maintenance facility for the war bird aircraft and a flight school are in the works for the airport. Tippin said the new hangar has a state of the art LED lighting system.

Although it took longer than expected for the hangar project to complete, Tippin is pleased with the addition.

“Well actually the guys did very well in it, and if it hadn’t been for a hold up in materials, they probably would have finished this project in about four months,” Tippin said. “The weather set in after that and it ended up in the total of about six months to get it going. But they finally did [finish] and boy I tell you it’s just a thrill to be in a brand new hangar.”
