This Week: Putnam Jail Expansion Discussion

The Putnam County Fiscal Review Committee will once again discuss the purchase of jail property at its Monday meeting.

County Commissioners approved the purchase of four parcels of land during September’s Commissioner meeting. The county still lacks the land needed to expand the jail and provide parking. Commissioners will also consider the approval for the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for a $50,000 Build Healthy grant. The 5:30 p.m. meeting will be at the Cookeville Community Center.

The Jamestown City Council will meet Monday via conference call to explore ideas to connect the newly opened Roane State College satellite campus to the city sewer system. A zoning ordinance will be up for approval to add apartments into the C-2 Central Business District. The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.

The purchase of water plant equipment headlines the Byrdstown Board of Alderman agenda Monday night. Meeting time set for 5pm Monday at Byrdstown City Hall.

Tuesday night, Kimley-Horn Consultant Engineers will present the Algood City Council with the first phase of the Algood City Park. The first phase includes a parking lot, bathroom, walking trail and playground. Meeting time begins at 6pm.

The city of Crossville will hold its monthly city council meeting Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall. A public hearing will be held beforehand at 5:50 for the Swallows Subdivision off of West Avenue. An ordinance will go through its first reading for master meter equipment and installation for Meadow Park Lake.

Cookeville City Council will hold public hearings on the proposed Quarry rezoning on Spring Street and the so-called panhandling ordinance Thursday night. The meeting has been moved to the Cookeville Performing Arts Center to allow for social distancing.

Thursday, the Cumberland County Regional Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 at the county courthouse. The commission will consider the final plat for the Emery Division on Highway 127.

The Fentress County Planning Commission will meet Friday at noon at the county courthouse.
