Three ordinances that would change how alcohol is served in Monterey are being rewritten after being considered too vague.
The city attorney reviewed the amendments and determined it needed a more clear definition of beer.
Most craft beers are above five percent, but the amendments say beer above five percent alcohol can not be sold or served in the city. This contradicts the city’s goal of recruiting a micro-brewery.
The ordinances were meant to go through the first reading during Monday’s board of alderman meeting. The beer board in September passed the ordinances that would allow restaurants to serve alcohol outdoors and micro-breweries to serve samples.
