MECCA Mini Music Fest Saturday

A free music festival is coming to Cookeville’s West Side Saturday.

The organization is called Music Enrichment for Community Centered Advancement. MECCA Founder Jill Stalnaker said musicians, a food vendor, and a costume contest are scheduled.

“You know, how important it is to have a downtown west side culture that’s really rich in art and music,” Stalnaker said. “It gives the community a huge, huge economic boost over the long term.”

Stalnaker said the mini music fest will be in the Biz Foundry parking lot from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. She said the event is a small taste for the 2022 MECCA Music Festival.

“It’s a traveling festival, so every year we’ll go to a different rural community in the state of Tennessee,” Stalnaker said. “Hopefully we’ll be working with the tourism department and all of the local city administrators to highlight the rural communities. So the mini fests are a way to kind of get that started, get our brand out there, and just help the communities know what we’re about.”

Three bands are lined up for the event. The Pizza Machine is scheduled to be there as well as a costume contest hosted by Spotlight Costumes. Giveaways and games will also take place through the afternoon.
