5 UC Counties Over 25% Positivity Rates

Five Upper Cumberland counties reported COVID positivity rates above 25 percent Wednesday.

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of tests given that produce a positive COVID result. CDC guidelines want those numbers around five percent. Only Van Buren County among Upper Cumberland counties has a rate under ten percent with nine percent positivity.

Dekalb County’s positivity rate stands at 34 percent with 28 new cases reported, according to data from the Tennessee Department Of Health. The active case counts stands at 113, nearly double over last Wednesday’s number.

Overton County reports a 33 percent positivity rate Wednesday with 16 new cases. Some 124 cases are currently being worked in Overton County. Overton County Health and Rehab has been dealing with a COVID outbreak, but state data shows it’s been four days since a positive case inside the facility.

Ten of the 31 COVID tests in Jackson County produced a positive result for a positivity rate of 32 percent. Nine new cases were added to the county’s total bringing the active case count to 50.

White County reported 28 new cases Wednesday with a positivity rate of 26 percent. 166 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in White County. Fentress County has a positivity rate of 25 percent Wednesday with 85 active cases, according to state figures.

Putnam County’s rate stands at 13 percent. Cookeville Regional Medical Center reports 60 patients currently being treated for COVID-19. That’s down from the earlier week record.
