Algood’s First Friday Event Starts This Week

Algood is kicking off its “First Friday’s Algood” event this Friday with a craft show and live music on Main Street.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said each month, the city and Red Oak Roasters will bring residents a new community event every first Friday.

“Crafter and artists and just an opportunity to stroll the street and get some food,” Morrison said. “I think Red Oak Roasters got some plans for some special offerings this weekend and get a coffee or hot chocolate or something.”

Main Street will be closed with a mixed bag of crafters operating Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday’s craft show will be in conjunction with Cumberlands Walk to Make Alzheimer’s a Memory parade, which will run through Main Street around 11:00 a.m.

Morrison said residents voicing wants of new events to replace the past street fairs played a part in the creation.

“We just felt this was a good chance for downtown Algood to be showcased and kind of get back on the map and for us to do something for the citizens and the community,” Morrison said. “We used to do street fairs years ago, and we have had a lot of requests to do that again.”

Morrison said residents can expect a Christmas themed event for December.
