Make Alzheimer’s A Memory This Saturday In Algood

Decorate your cars and join the parade to make Alzheimer’s a memory this Saturday in Algood.

Alzheimers Tennessee typically hosts a walking event, but COVID made the organization rethink this year’s fundraiser. Regional Director Lynn Drew said a parade can help achieve the organization’s fund raising goal.

“We are seeing a greater need for services and programs for those facing a diagnosis with Alzheimer’s,” Drew said. “Especially, due to the COVID that we have all been dealing with. Routines are changed and isolation has become an issue.”

Drew said donations go towards services, such as support groups and care giver training. Parade registration begins at 9:30 at Trinity Assembly. The car line will start from Main Street and turn right down Dry Valley Road. Participants and donors are eligible for cash prizes and souvenirs.

“We invite families if you have a loved one you can ride in honor or in memory of someone,” Drew said. “We invite businesses and different organizations to come out and line with us to bring awareness for Alzheimer’s.”

The opening ceremony begins at 10:30 with the parade starting 15 minutes later. Drew said participants are encouraged to dress and decorate in the Alzheimer’s awareness official colors, purple and orange.

“The weather looks like it is going to be gorgeous,” Drew said. “If you want to come out and ride in the parade, just give us a call. Our number is (931)-526-8017, or if you live along the parade route, we encourage you to wave and cheer as we go by.”

Alzheimers Tennessee serve those facing the disease and related dementia, to promote brain health through education, research, prevention and treatment efforts.
