This Week: Overton BOE Seat Filled

The Overton County Commission expected to appoint a new school board member Monday night.

The county started accepting applications for the District 1 seat two weeks ago after board member Dr. Diane Sadler passed away. County Executive Ben Danner said he waited to fill the seat out of respect for the Sadler family.

The commission will meet at 5:00 p.m. Monday on the third floor of the county courthouse.

The Byrdstown City Council will hear reports Monday from Consulting Engineer Nathaniel Green about the ongoing water line project. Eagle Cove and Star Point are the two areas receiving the upgrades. Last month, the city was waiting for the reaming materials to start the project.

Mayor Sam Gibson said the project needs to be completed before mid-December, so the city can apply to the next round of Community Development Block Grants.

City Council meets Monday at city hall starting at 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Algood City Council will consider applying for a grant to fund a 900 seat amphitheater for its city park. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Parks and Recreation Grant is worth up to $300,000. Algood would match the grant funds. The amphitheater would include a sound and lighting booth.

The council will also consider a surplus auction of three 2014 Dodge Chargers. The meeting begins virtually at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed via YouTube.

Crossville City Council meets Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall. The final reading of an ordinance to close the Church Street right of way will occur. Flynn Sign Company President Tom Flynn made the request since he owns parcels on each side of the roadway, which is abandoned.

The purchase of a Reelmaster 3100-D Sidewinder (reel mower) will also be approved for $36,000.

The Dekalb County Board of Education will consider action on prom and graduation plans. The meeting will be held Thursday at the Dekalb County High School at 7:00 p.m.
