Cookeville is taking proposals to upgrade its Council Chamber’s audio, video and streaming capabilities.
City Administrator James Mills said replacing the 15 year old A/V system is needed because of anticipation that meetings will need to be electronic as the pandemic continues. Mills said the $50,000 project will address complaints residents have while watching the Cookeville City Council online.
“Especially enhance the audio, we get complaints that the people can’t hear when they stream our meetings,” Mills said. “We think this is a good expenditure, of at least a small portion of that CARES Act money to upgrade the audio and the video capabilities for our council chambers.”
Mills said there will also be additional speakers added to address complaints over not being able to hear people speaking from the audience. Mills said he hopes to have the system ready for use by the end of the year.
“We’re hoping that it will be done, of course with holidays you run into issues,” Mills said. “We’re hoping some time by the first of the year or pretty soon after the first of the year.”
Cookeville will be accepting proposals on replacing the A/V system until 10:00 AM on November 6. Mills said the step after that is an ad hoc committee, made up of employees with A/V experience, submitting their recommendation.
“Depending on the the proposals we receive on the 6th, we intend to submit this for council approval at the second meeting in November,” Mills said.
Mills said this upgrade will enhance Cookeville City Council and Planning Commission meetings. Mills said the current A/V system is an analog system.
