Benefit Event Saturday For Injured Cumberland Sheriff’s Deputy

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is holding a benefit Saturday to help raised money for injured Deputy Greg Green.

Green has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement and is paralyzed from the chest down after falling from a ladder while working his guttering business.  Chief Deputy Jerry Jackson said this event is a chance for the community Deputy Green served, to try and serve him.

“He loved Cumberland County, there’s no doubt about it, even in his guttering business,” Jackson said. “He just loved to help the community and you know, we’re just asking the community to help him now.”

Jackson said starting at 8:30 AM, there will be a auctions, a 5K run with the SWAT team, chili cook-off and BBQ lunch. Jackson said they are still taking donations.

“We’ve got an old antique sewing machine, Singer… we looked the numbers up and it looks like it’s from like 1866,” Jackson said. “We’ve got all kinds of things, we’ve got several firearms and stuff that’s been donated, golf clubs.”

Helping organize this event for Deputy Green has a special meaning for Jackson. Jackson said Deputy Green was there when he first started learning to be in law enforcement.

“I remember when I first started over 20 years ago, I rode with him a few times,” Jackson said. “He was actually one of my training officers.”

Jackson said Deputy Green has served in nearly every position in the Sheriff’s Office. Even spending time with Crossville’s Police Department.

“He’s been on SWAT, he’s worked just about every position there was in the sheriff’s office,” Jackson said. “He’s a deputy, he’s been an investigator, he’s been a sergeant and he’s been a corporal.”

Jackson said anyone interested in registering for the events or donating to the auction can contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. This event will take place at the Cumberland County Community Complex, starting at 8:30 AM.
