Baxter water customers could have an option to get leak adjustment insurance through a third-party company called Servline.
Mayor John Martin said this was something the city pursued due to a loss of money from leak adjustments. Martin said it looks like the insurance will go into effect in about three months for customers who opt-in.
“You don’t have to take this but the thing about it, if you do there’s no way that the city is going to honor a leak adjustment,” Martin said. “After that date that we sign with the company.”
Water customers will get up to $2,500 for one leak adjustment at a rate of $2.75 a month for residential properties. Martin said customers who take the insurance will file their claim with Servline.
“They will send auditors out and check and make sure you corrected your problem if you’ve had a leak and exactly where the leak came from,” Martin said. “Anything over the $2,500 the customer is responsible for that.”
Commercial properties will have a higher monthly rate of $6.90. Customers will be allowed one leak adjustment a year, which must be at least twice as high as their average bill.
