Algood Accepting Gift Donations For Signature Healthcare Residents

The Algood Police Department has set up a donation drop box at city hall for the residents of Putnam’s Signature Healthcare

City Hall Clerk Megan Benton said the goal is to remind residents that the community is thinking about them this holiday season.

“The idea was really based off of the fact that these seniors have been in their nursing home for months now not able to see their family members,” Benton said. “Not being able to get that connection that we are getting while we are out here. We do not want to forget them during the holiday season.”

Benton said the nursing home is asking for items ranging from calendars to individual bottles of soap.

“Just some basic things such as socks, the gripped slippers,” Benton said. “There are things like fleece blankets. There are other things that are a little bit more for activities to keep them busy and keep their minds off of maybe not having families around like crossword puzzles.”

This is the first year of this initiative. Benton said gifts should be able to fit into a mailbox and be unwrapped.

“It will be located in the main lobby of Algood City Hall,” Benton said. “It will have an identification sticker on it. The deadline fr it will be Friday, December 18th at 4:00 p.m.”

City Hall will be closed Thursday and Friday, so plan accordingly if you want to donate.
