TDEC Approves Putnam Sports Complex Land Designs

Putnam County has approval from TDEC for plans to add soccer and lacrosse fields and a new entrance to the county’s sports complex.

Parks and Recreation Director John Ross Albertson said the county will start creating its bid packet and send it out by the start of January. Albertson said after waiting over two years to get the project started, he wants to move quickly in 2021.

“It feels pretty good, especially with all the delays that we’ve had trying to jump through the hoops that have been given to us,” Albertson said. “It’s taken a whole lot longer than what any of us had ever anticipated and what we desired… Our original thought and desire was to have it done within the year of actually being awarded the grant.”

Putnam County was awarded a $333,500 grant for this project by Tennessee in 2018 to expand the complex. Albertson said there will be a better idea of when the fields can be used once they are able to evaluate the received bids.
