Awning Project Underway For Gainesboro Municipal Building

The Gainesboro Board of Alderman approved a $3,000 awning project for its municipal building.

The bid was awarded to Nashville Tent and Awning during Thursday’s board meeting. Town Clerk Lisa Dodson said three will be replaced while a new canopy will be built for the drive thru.

“We have one over the back door, one over the police department and one over city hall,” Dodson said. “To redo those three, that means we have to take those three down and for them to revinyl those is $1,775.”

Dodson said city employees would take the awnings to Nashville to be refurbished and then, reinstalled. The drive thru covering will be five feet wide.

“They suggested four or five foot so that when the drawer goes out in the winter time it doesn’t get wet or ice get in it.” Dodson said.

Tennessee Awnings was the other bid considered. The company only installs new frames instead of refurbishing, so the price tag was $6,150. Alderman Ricky Head said the difference in cost is why he chose Nashville Tent and Awning, which also installed the blue canopies at the Bull and Thistle Pub.

Dodson said the refurbished awnings will still be maroon with wording for each office on it.
