1,675 New COVID Cases This Week In UC


The number of positive COVID cases across the Upper Cumberland has increased by more than 75 percent in the last week, according to data from the State Department Of Health.

Since Sunday, 1,675 new COVID cases have been diagnosed across Clay, Cumberland, Dekalb, Fentress, Jackson, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, Van Buren, Warren and White Counties. That’s up from 951 over the same four days last week.

A total of 2,058 cases are currently active.

As of Thursday, Cookeville Regional is treating 52 COVID patients. A 99th patient died in the last 24 hours, a patient from Fentress County.

Putnam County’s COVID positivity rate Thursday topped 28 percent, the fourth straight day above 17 percent. That’s the highest one-day rate since September 22. Putnam County reported 76 new cases with a total of 503 active Thursday.

Pickett County reported a positivity rate over 39 percent for the third straight day. Thursday, the number of positive results from new tests given stood at 40 percent. Fentress County reported a 33 percent positivity rate with Clay County at 32 percent. Every other county Thursday except Van Buren County had a positivity rate over 20 percent. Van Buren County reported no tests.
