Putnam’s First Assistant 911 Director Honored After Retiring

The first Assistant Director in the history of Putnam County 911 was given a plaque for 40 years of service Thursday.

Former Assistant Director Mike Thompson started as EMT and worked his way through the department into an administrative role. The Current Putnam County 911 Assistant Director Brandon Smith said Thompson was a mentor, and helped implement systems the department relies on to this day.

“He’s someone who has a hand in a lot of the projects over the years, switching over to the new digital radio system… Which is not so new anymore,” Smith said. “He’s taken a lot of ownership in our radio systems and our radio networks. The things that allow emergency responders to talk in emergencies from day-to-day.”

Smith said the stories will be told about Thompson in the years to come. He said stories will have a lot to do with his sense of humor and dedication to his work.
