New Clay EMA Director Wants To Focus On State Relationship

Clay County’s new EMA Director has transitioned to his new title and is ready to carry out his duties.

Kyle Haney was appointed to the position last week by the county commission. Haney said moving forward, he wants to work closely with the state to better benefit responders.

“Just being there for the personnel,” Haney said. “The emergency services side just having someone that they can go out and talk to and just know they have someone fighting for them. I just want to be there for them and be that liaison at the state level.”

When it comes to future operations, Haney said finding ways to revive the county’s volunteer rescue squad is something to consider. Haney has worked with county emergency response crews for about 10 years and was trained by former director Natalie Boone.

“It is exciting. It is always exciting to step into a new role,” Haney said. “I have been taught by Natalie Boone. Ran around performing calls and some operational duties with her for the past several years. She is a role model to look up to. I am excited to follow her guidance and fill the big shoes she left.”

Haney said as director, he provides state resources to responders and coordinates responses to disasters. Haney said he is happy with how emergency services are currently running in the county.
