Construction Of Pall Mall’s Kayak Park Continues In Spring

Work on a new kayak park at Pall Mall has been put on hold with construction season coming to a close.

Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson said work at Alvin C. York State Park should resume next spring with an estimated fall completion.

“Our future plans are to carry on with our project that we have done there for getting a site,” Johnson said. “Where you can actually boat the back waters there of Sergeant York Park.”

Johnson said the plan is to be able to access the park’s accommodations from the waterways. Johnson said drawings for a storage building and ranger house have been completed. Other plans include a kayak ramp. Johnson said kayaking classes will also be available after completion.

“For the more braver ones, there will be a spot if they want to go down the river if they want to,” Johnson said. “They can also access the restaurant, and you have all the visiting tours, and you have the general store open.”

At this time, only site preparation has been completed. The some $37,000 state tourism grant was awarded in July 2019.
