Cumberland County Playhouse 2021 Season Begins April

The Cumberland County Playhouse will take a hiatus with next year’s season not starting until April.

CEO Bryce McDonald said the time will be used to make some technology upgrades.

“We got somethings we need to do,” McDonald said. “We have a new ticketing software coming online. We have new development software. We are going to build a new website.”

McDonald said the improvements should be completed in time for 12 different productions coming to the main stage and adventure theater. McDonald said the full lineup should be announced in January.

“We are excited about the possibility of shows we will have,” McDonald said. “We are going to be producing 12 shows next year. (…) We think audiences are going to love them and be very excited.”

With the introduction of a COVID vaccine, McDonald said he expects a slow rebuilding year in 2021. Business overall will be based on future guidelines.

“I don’t know if a bounce back will truly happen,” McDonald said. “I think all of it depends on how well people receive the vaccine, how quickly Tennessee gets it and how quickly our patrons want to take the vaccine. We are hopeful that by the time we get to the summer and going into the fall, we will start to feel that bounce back.”

McDonald said the attitude heading into the next season is being thankful.

“Grateful to still be here,” McDonald said. “Thankful for our patrons, our donors, our staff and just with the people that believe in us. And hopeful for 2021.”
