Livingston Airport Half Way Through 6 Mile Fencing Project

The Livingston Municipal Airport is working towards improving its fencing to protect its runway from wildlife.

Airport Chairman Jason Duke said a wildlife study showed that the last fence line was a safety hazard.

“A recent wildlife survey found we needed to do an eight foot high fence. Of course, with barbed wire across the top made to keep deer out,” Duke said. “In that, you have to do some purchase of some adjacent land, and we are having to expand the buffer to 50 feet outside the current fence and some tree cleanup in the area, as well.”

Duke said with an almost mile long runway, up to six miles of fencing will be laid. Duke said this project is a major undertaking with a 2022 completion. Duke said about 50 percent of the project is completed.

“Our runway is 5,152 feet long, almost a mile long runway” Duke said. “If you figure the buffer areas around a runway in the airport property, it is easily going to be four to six miles of fence to replace.”

The project is also taking the majority of the airports available funding for the next two years, Duke said.
