Birthday Wishes Requested For Putnam County WWII Veteran

Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter is asking the community to send birthday cards to one of the community’s oldest veterans.

World War II veteran Lehman Riggs will turn 101 on Sunday but the pandemic doesn’t allow for a celebration in-person. Putnam County Veteran Services Representative Michael Glass said it is meaningful for the community to reach out while they still can to someone willing to sacrifice, for freedom.

“Most civilians will never know the stressful jobs that kept America safe,” Glass said. “All these servicemen and women, they held up their hand and said they would be willing to lay their life down to help protect America.”

Anyone interested in filling Lehman Riggs room with birthday wishes can do so by mail. His address is Lehman Riggs, Heritage Pointe Senior Living, 1030 S. Maple Avenue, Cookeville, Tennessee 38501.
