Cookeville Special Meeting Called For Mayor’s CRMC Hiring

Cookeville City Council will have a special called meeting Thursday. The purpose is to discuss options of outside legal advice on Mayor Ricky Shelton’s Cookeville Regional hiring.

City Manager James Mills said the request came from an unnamed council member who could not attend the February meeting.

“It was decided today after it was determined one of the council members would not be in town on the regular schedule meeting, which would be in two weeks on the 18th,” Mills said. “So because one of the council members is going to be absent, that member asked that we call a special meeting.”

The original motion for an investigation was made by Councilman Charles Womack. The council voted 3-2 to postpone to the 18th. Mills said a special meeting was able to be requested based on a voter being absent that day.

Mills said the meeting will be conducted virtually with no other points of discussion. Mills said a public notice with more information will be released Friday.

Womack called for outside legal advice based on City Attorney Danny Rader having a conflict of interest. Rader serves on the hospital’s board of trustees while consulting the Cookeville.
