Cumberland Co. Playhouse Spring Season Announced

The Cumberland County Playhouse has announced its productions for the upcoming spring season.

The performance art theater has four shows prepared. CEO Bryce McDonald said productions kick off April 2nd with Clue On Stage.

“We are still operating at a 25 percent capacity, so we are only selling 120 seats for the main stage shows,” McDonald said. “And only 75 seats for the Black Box shows.”

The three other performances coming to the stage are the Savannah Sipping CompanyNothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now and Duck Hunter Shoots Angel. McDonald said these range from family friendly comedies, dance performances and stories of redemption.

Savannah Sipping Company, which is a comedy that opens in our Black Box Theater on April 23rd,” McDonald said. “Followed by, we have two nights of a special event. It is called Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, which is our T-3 education department at the Playhouse. It is our students, and it is their showcase, and we put together a dance and acting performance show with all of our classes, and that is May 7th and 8th. Then, we open the comedy Duck Hunter Shoots Angel on May 14th on our main stage.”

McDonald said all of these productions were scheduled for the 2020 season, but COVID forced a delay. McDonald said that is not exactly a bad thing with half of the sets already created, which will help with finances.

“We’re also lucky in a sense. Two of those four shows were already built, because they were planned for 2020,” McDonald said. “And the third one already has a set design. So some of the expenses we were able to take off, because they were already paid in 2020. So that is helpful and is the reason why we put them back in the season, as well. With that, the 25 percent capacity could help us as long, but it is going to be very tight.”

Twelve shows in total are planned for the year with the summer season schedule coming out soon. McDonald said he remains hopeful as COVID numbers drop that full capacities could come later this year.
