Dale Hollow Lake’s favorite Bald Eagle couple, Obey and River, have been spotted with a new nest.

Local eagle watchers have confirmed at least two eaglets inside the nest. Dale Hollow Eagle Cam Facebook Manager Darlene Neeley said now the question is will there be a new eagle cam to watch the family grow?

“There is not guarantee,” Neely said. “Because, it is going to depend on if they can run the wire and get the cam located to be able to see the eaglets and the eagles good. It won’t happen though until July or August, because we can not visit the nest between egg season and hatch season.”

Neeley said Obey and River have laid 13 confirmed eaglets since 2017. The two newest are named DH 12 and DH 13, which stands for Dale Hollow and the number of the eaglet.

“It is very exciting,” Neeley said. “We all jumped for joy. As a matter of fact, it is the Facebook Page cover page where you can see the two little eaglets.”

Neeley said the new nest is just left of last year’s in between Sunset and East Port Marinas. A Twin Lakes eagle cam provided a live 24/7 feed of that nest until lightening struck the tree last summer.

“Twin Lakes is in the process of reviewing where the lake is,” Neeley said. “And then the Marine Association is behind it also. The three marinas East Port, Sunset and Willow Grove. Those three guys are pretty much over it too.”

New born eagles usually fledge up to three months before leaving the nest.
