Cookeville Green Market Finds New Home At Jig Head Brewery

The Cookeville Green Market will be open Saturday at its new location, Jig Head Brewery.

Cookeville Green Market President Holly Zywica said they had to find a new location when their lease was terminated after six years. Zywica said the same selection of seasonal produce, soaps, teas and more will be available this weekend.

“A lot of our customers have realized the importance of organic, naturally grown products,” Zywica said. “From your food to even your body products, because of the toxins that the industry in general put into everything.”

Zywica said the new location will be kid and pet friendly, and she hopes to have live music each Saturday. Zywica said that fresh produce is already available and anyone is welcome to come from 8:00 AM to noon.

“We’re just one great big family, it’s almost like a weekly family reunion,” Zywica said. “Everybody gets along, everybody shares their recipe, everybody shares their ideas.”

Zywica said the market is governed by its own board and inspects farmers and producers to ensure they are selling natural products they grew. She said having control over what is sold was the reason for leaving the Cookeville Community Market.

“There were a lot of people who were reselling,” Zywica said. “They’d go to Kentucky or Pikeville and come in with these boxes of formerly purchased items and claiming that they grew it and low-balling the prices for those of us who really did grow it and trying to make a living doing this. And then we just decided to start our own market and govern ourselves.”

Zywica said that Jig Head Brewery will not be open during market hours, in case anyone is concerned about a presence of alcohol. She said that rain or shine, the Cookeville Green Market will go on.
