Fentress Finds Firetruck After Long Delay

After nearly two years Fentress County is set to pick up its new CDBG funded firetruck.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said there was a four-day period recently where they thought the truck had been lost. However, Johnson said the truck was located and in the United States.

“It’s been sitting at the Canadian border trying to get through, that and COVID,” Johnson said. “But the news was that it’s on the lot now in Mississippi, so we will go get it finished putting together in the next few days and hopefully we’ll have it.”

Johnson said someone will travel to Mississippi to pick the truck up. Johnson said the county will write its own check to pick up the truck and will be reimbursed through the CDBG grant.

“There’s a deadline we have to have it back by March 31,” Johnson said. “Because other CDBG grants depend on that. So it was getting down close to the wire. They had actually broke down again in Pennsylvania and so we finally got a hold of them today and they called and said it did arrive in Mississippi today.”

Fentress County received $263,000 in CDBG grant funding for the new firetruck. Johnson said this will be a huge boost to fire safety with 12 stations around Fentress.
