Multiple Entities Investigating Missing Money At Livingston PD

District Attorney Bryant Dunaway, the TBI and the Comptroller’s Office are investigating the disappearance of money from the Livingston Police Department.

Dunaway said Police Chief Greg Etheredge notified him of the missing funds about two or three weeks.

“I don’t have an exact number, but it is reported that it is several thousands dollars,” Dunaway said. “But, I don’t know exactly what number it is. That’s going to be part of the subject of the investigation.”

Dunaway said he requested for TBI and the Comptroller’s Office to conduct a joint investigation based on Etheredge’s report. Dunaway said he included the Comptroller’s Office due to the financial nature.

“My normal protocol when I have any kind of investigation that relates to one agency, in this case the Livingston Police Department,” Dunaway said. “I always find that it is always best practice to have a different agency conduct the investigation.”

Dunaway said at this time, it is unknown if this has been a reoccurring situation or a one time act. Dunaway said no suspects have been identified at this time.

“There is no typical time period,” Dunaway said. “Every investigation is different and has different circumstances related to them. Really don’t know how long this will take. It depends how long the money has been missing, the source of the money was, how many interviews are necessary. It is just really relative.”

Dunaway said he does expect to get an update on the investigation in the very near future. Once work is complete, Dunaway said he will determine whether or not criminal conduct was involved.
