Warren County High School, Community Making Prom A Reality

Warren County High School and the local community is working together to deliver the perfect prom for students.

English Teacher Whitney Dyer said the school’s prom shop has grown from teacher donations to brand new dresses from a local shop. Dyer said that dresses, shoes and jewelry are all available so no student has to go without.

“We were hearing that a lot of girls weren’t going to prom because they couldn’t afford it, because prom is very expensive,” Dyer said. “We just kind of thought, well we have dresses in our closet. So it kind of started there.”

The prom shop will be open at Warren County High School from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM at the high school on Tuesday.

Dyer said they’ve reached 80 dresses, 50 pairs of shoes and will search for anything a student is still missing to complete their prom outfit. Dyer said this year, they are in need of someone from the community to help with hair and makeup after losing their previous stylist.

“We’re here to serve them and it’s all about them and their special day and it is completely free,” Dyer said. “We are here to help, we are here to pick out dresses, we’re here to support in anyway that we can. We make sure that they have everything that they need. So if they need shoes as well and they don’t have any shoes here, we go searching for shoes. Same thing with jewelry, if they don’t have the jewelry that they like, we go searching for it.”

Dyer said that the prom shop has been around for a few years. She said things took off when they reached out to the community on social media.

“The support has been amazing, it’s so heart warming to see people come and just donate dresses and they’re so excited to,” Dyer said. “That’s what’s even better about it.”

Dyer said that anything picked out from the prom shop needs to be returned the week after prom. She said that teachers will pay the bill to get everything cleaned for next years prom.
