Applications are available for a Livingston Downtown Revitalization grant to take businesses into the past.
Chairman Ray Evans said two grants, up to $12,500 are available to restore businesses back to the way they looked in the 1960’s or earlier. Evans said this will continue the renaissance of quality businesses in downtown Livingston.
“Study after study has shown that in your central business district, the buildings that have been most respectful to their historical past,” Evans said. “Generally speaking, the businesses in those buildings perform better.”
Evans said that applications can be picked up at Livingston City Hall, with a May 19 deadline. He said that the Downtown Revitalization Committee will review the applications on May 21.
“In essence you have to show a before and after,” Evans said. “Documentation of what the building looked like at some appropriate time in history and what you intend to do to the existing building to convert it back to that historic look. We also will be looking for certain information about the financial standing of the owner and the contractor that they would intend to use.”
Evans said that the selected business or property owners would need to provide a 50/50 match on the grant. He said the minimum amount available is $8,000 and tops out at $12,500, for exterior work only.
