Jackson Clerk Turns In Clean Annual Office Report

The Jackson County Clerk turned in a clean annual report to the county commission Monday Night.

County Mayor Randy Heady said this was a first for the county. Heady said in just under a year in office, Brandon Stafford’s term as clerk has been a relief to county government and county residents.

“That’s really important because we want to make sure that the people when they vote you in, they put some trust in you,” Heady said. “They trust that you’re going to do the job with honesty and integrity and also work because you’re working for them.”

Heady said that Stafford is not only running a transparent office, but one that gets its revenue numbers in, in a timely manner. Heady said having the clerk’s office running in this manner is key to the county, saying it brings in more revenue than any county office on a day-to-day basis.

“They mayor’s the chief financial officer, not just the CEO but the CFO of the county which puts a lot of burden to make sure revenues are being collected and then brought in,” Heady said. “We all like to have things in the county and we like to keep our roads up, we like to make sure our schools are taken care of and our teachers and our students and the other things in the county are taken care of right. Solid waste for instance or your sheriff’s department and ambulance service. Well the only way these things keep going is if we make sure we get our revenues in. So when you have office holders that you don’t have to worry about them bringing in the revenue and they’re going to do everything they can to do their part in helping the county move forward, that is a huge relief.”

Stafford was elected in August 2020, after temporarily filling the position when Amanda Stafford resigned. Amanda Stafford pled guilty to two counts of theft over $2,500 dollars in 2020, over $25,000 was reported stolen while she served as county clerk.
