Sparta Prepping Now For City Paving Project Starting Next Week

Crews are beginning the prep work for phase one of Sparta’s city paving project.

Public Works Director Dillard Quick said work will start next week, lasting roughly three weeks to complete. Quick said this round of paving is going after the roads deemed the worst of the worst.

“There’s so many cuts in the road and there’s so many bad places with alligatoring,” Quick said. “We have a lot of water cuts, we have a lot of sewer cuts and a lot of pot holes. It’s probable that some of these streets haven’t been paved in 30 or 40 years.”

Quick said no specific streets have been named for exactly where work starts. He said the city will meet with contractors to form a game plan on where work should start next week.

Quick said over 4.8 miles will be paved during phase one. He said there is an expectation that some parking lots and other paving will be able to be accomplished during this phase.
