Putnam School System has entered into contract with an architect to design a building for the system’s virtual school program.
Director of Schools Corby King said the project includes a space for the VITAL facility as well as a training room.
“We just don’t have enough space when we have all the administrators and teachers together in large groups,” King said. “We need training space, and so, we would add a training space as well as VITAL. Currently, our VITAL teachers are being housed in open classroom space at Prescott Middle School as well as the VITAL office.”
King said the goal is to have all VITAL instructors in one location. King said the expansion would be on the back side of White Plains Academy where the playground of the Algood school was located.
King said a second addition also included in the contract for the student services building. King said it would be to add office space, an additional bathroom and storage room.
“Student Services houses our homeless liaison, family resource coordinator and they have no storage space,” King said. “We get lots of donations from the community. We get a lot of things whether it be clothing, furniture to families who are displaced who are in need.”
King said both projects are funded by about $2.9 million of grant money moved to the school’s capital projects fund. Upland Design Group of Crossville will design and plan the work.
