The Double Springs Utility District is finalizing a $1.2 million bond for a main line improvement near Highway 70.
Board President Lynn McHenry said the water line from Locust Grove Road to Highway 56 will increase from an eight inch to 12 inch line.
“We of course have an increase in usage in that end of the county,” McHenry said. “Obviously, we know how much the west end of the county is growing. Trying to plan ahead to get the size that we need there, and also those lines are getting some age to them.”
McHenry said the utility district has not fully received the funds but expects to start the project in the coming months. McHenry said the goal is to complete the upgrade by the end of the year, but weather conditions may result in a spring ending.
“We’ve contacted most or almost all residents there that will be impacted,” McHenry said. “We’ve got easements from them where needed. In some places, we are using the easements for the highway. We’re going to try to hold as close as we can to the highway and keep from disturbing the yards as much as possible, but we will obviously fix those back. Long-term, they’re going to end up with better water pressure.”
McHenry said the district plans to limit water outages to just hours at a time while work is ongoing. McHenry said water rates are expected to remain the same as the utility provider searches for grant funding to pay off the bond.
“We hope to be able to hold out rates without this increasing them at all other than what we get an increase from the city of Cookeville cause that is where we buy our water from,” McHenry said.
