Tech’s Move-In-Week Kicking Off With Week Of Events

Wednesday kicks off move-in-week at Tennessee Tech, welcoming in the 2025 class of Golden Eagles.

Student Affairs Vice President Cynthia Polk-Johnson said they are expecting over 1,200 incoming students to campus. Polk-Johnson said there are campus events planned before classes to help new students find their campus community.

“Classes don’t start until the 19th and so there will be many ways that students can get involved,” Polk-Johnson said. “We don’t want students just sitting in their rooms and thinking about home or thinking about how much they would rather be home. We want them to get engaged early on.”

Polk-Johnson said students will get some down time to organize their room, meet people in their dorms and check out campus. Polk-Johnson said events start Wednesday night with rock climbing at the fitness center, followed with days of other activities.

“On that Friday, we’ll have a trivia challenge that will be in our multipurpose room here in the Roaden University center, starting at 3:00 PM,” Polk-Johnson said. “We’ll also have an escape activity over at the student recreation and fitness center from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday night.”

She said the university plans to increase weekend events and partner with the Cookeville community to offer things for students off campus. However, Polk-Johnson said she hopes students take advantage of the new outdoor spaces on campus, as well.

The move in begins at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, with students having their own specific check-in times. She encourages students to find their niche on campus and engage with students and staff in their residence hall.
