Cookeville’s New Dog Park Hosting Dogapalooza’s Return

Dogapalooza is returning to Cookeville for its 11th event at the highly anticipated new Cookeville dog park.

The event is set for September 25, after last year’s Dogapalooza was cancelled in-person. Recreation Superintendent Cara Sheets said coming to the dog park opens the door to more possibilities.

“Something we’re working on is having more interactive activities for the dogs and their owners,” Sheets said. “Making it just a really good play day and event for the two together, stuff for them to do together.”

Sheets said at this time, there will be a pet parade, dog selfie station and an improved off-leash area at the park.  Sheets said they are working on getting food trucks that will offer treats for dogs too.

“We are in the process of getting our organizations, sponsors, vendors to commit and say they’re going to be there because we really want it to be a big event,” Sheets said. “It’s something we’re going to grow and we’re hoping to bring a lot of energy at the new park. We’re trying to have more interactive stuff for the dogs so it’s more of a special day for the dogs.”

Sheets said while many were disappointed when Dogapalooza could not happen in-person last year. However, she said it feels like things worked out for the best.

“It worked out perfectly because in the process of having that time off, now everyone is excited about doing it,” Sheets said. “But also about changing places, changing up the schedule of it, changing the times. So it’s actually worked out for the best and we could not be more excited about it.”

She said the best way for dog lovers to keep up to date on what’s being added is to follow Cookeville Leisure Services social media.
