Those eligible for Medicare can participate in a free class Monday to learn more about coverage.

Coordinator Tyler McCullar said the State Health Insurance Assistance Program training begins at 12:00 p.m. at Crossville’s Art Circle Library.

“A lot of it is just kinda the realm of the unknown,”” McCullar said. “They know of Medicare, but they may not know the specifics of Medicare and what all Medicare covers, what it does and what options they have.”

McCullar said the three hour sessions will be a general overview of four different plans and how to avoid fraud. McCullar said the course can empower participants to make the best decision on their own coverage.

“They receive phone calls and mail from all these different companies trying to sell them specific plans and that can add to the confusion, because they’re just getting so many options all at the same time,” McCullar said. “It can definitely be a process of being overwhelmed.”

McCullar said Part A Hospital coverage, Part B Medical coverage, Part D Prescription Coverage and Medigap supplemental plans will all be reviewed. McCullar said community resources will also be available.

“We’re going to be covering the whole 9 yards of Medicare,” McCullar said. “It is a big overview. It is not going to be anything geared toward a certain clientele or person. If we wanted to look at specific options for that person, we would make a phone appointment or one-on-one appointment for their situation.”

McCullar said the program will also be coming to the Overton County Millard Oakley Library on August 24th. McCullar said more sessions are in the work for Putnam and White Counties in the future, as well.
